Join us in promoting Vancouver Island's sport fishing industry.
Island Angler is seeking a reliable, self-starter to present our publications to potential advertisers. Top commission paid.
Work your at own pace - part-time or full-time. Work from home, work on the phone, work on-line.
Submit resume and cover letter: EMAIL editor@islandangler.net OR call (250) 753-2227
Thank you for your interest in Island Angler. We have
been publishing our tabloid-format sport fishing magazine since 1989. Our pages
have presented the work of many of British Columbia’s best known sport fishing
writers including: Alan Crow, Garry Cooper, Ian Forbes, Richard Heckert, Alex
Henry, Alec Merriman, Ron MacIsaac, Blair McLean, Courtney Ogilvie, Dennis Reid
(D.C. Reid),
Ralph Shaw, Barry M. Thornton, Charlie White, David Wiwchar.
We publish 6 editions per year. Each issue carries 3 to 5 feature articles.
Shorter submissions are welcome also. These are usually news stories.
Payment for feature article is $25 for 800-1200 words.
Writers should submit articles or queries by email,
as copy/paste inset into body of the email (rather than as attachments - which
will not be opened). We no longer accept hard copy manuscripts, either typed or
handwritten except by special arrangement.
Photographs and
illustrations should also be in digital JPG format. These may be sent as email
attachments or on CD or other storage devices, by mail to: Island Angler, 30
Acacia Ave., Nanaimo, B.C. V9R 3L4.
Feature articles should be 800-1400 words in length. How-to and where-to type
articles are most welcome. Our focus is always on either the fresh and saltwater
fisheries of Vancouver Island.
Articles should rely as much on narrative as on information. Our readers want to
learn while being entertained. Humour and warmth are just as valuable to our
readers as good information that will help them become better anglers.
Writers can get a sense of our preferences by reading the articles on line on
this website (Fishing
Articles On-Line).
If you’ve never sampled Vancouver Island’s unique fisheries chances are you have
little to say to our readers. Don’t be discouraged; come on out to the Island
and get fishing. You’ll soon see why Vancouver Island anglers are such
enthusiasts. Island Angler welcomes new writers if submissions match our
editorial requirements.
Photos are welcome as part of submissions. Photos may be submitted via email as
JPGs or as prints via snail mail.
Text should be presented in Canadian English (ITC Nelson Canadian Dictionary and
CP Style Guide are editorial standards for form and spelling).
We do not capitalize common names of fish species. Salmon species are referred
to by their Canadian common names. We do not capitalize common or generic-type
names of flies and lures unless they are trademark brand names lures, or manufacturer's names.
The best way to know what we're looking for is to order an issue at the address
above: $5 in Canada – mark the request envelope “Sample”.
Take the opportunity to join our team of expert contributors and share your experiences and fishing knowledge with thousands of our readers. Be an Island Angler writer; see your name in print and on the web. Expand your readership, promote your career as a writer.
BOOK PROPOSALS: Our guide book series includes Island Angler’s Guide
to Island Rivers, Guide to Saltwater Salmon Fishing,
Guide to Bass Fishing in
British Columbia, and Ralph Shaw’s Vancouver Island
Adventures.
If you think you can write a compatible book send a 2 – 3 page summary of your
proposal, include possible sources, list of photos, available maps,
illustrations, etc.
Payment for book manuscripts is negotiable.
ADVERTORIALS
